Broken Kingdom, the fourth and final book in the Royal Hearts Academy series by Ashley Jade. Although the RHA Series is a series of standalone books featuring different couples Cruel Prince, Ruthless Knight, and Wicked Princess should be read before reading Broken Kingdom to gain a better grasp and understanding of the Covington family dynamic, as well as to have a better reading experience.

After all of the controversy of Wicked Princess I have to admit that I was nervous about going into Broken Kingdom. There’s no other way to say it, I was let down by WP and I was very worried that Bianca’s story would end there. I’m not going to get into all that, if you’d like to check out my review for Wicked Princess, you can read it here.

But I will say that as far as Wicked Princess and Broken Kingdom being a “duet”, I wish readers had been told that BEFORE the release of WP. I feel like that could have affected my rating and certain parts of my review. I debated on whether or not to go back and change a bit of my review of WP but ultimately decided against it because my feelings on that book still stand.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½ 𝓞𝓿𝓮𝓻𝓪𝓵𝓵 𝓡𝓪𝓽𝓲𝓷𝓰: Now, back to Broken Kingdom. So although I wasn’t happy with the way things went in WP, I went into Broken Kingdom with an open mind for three reasons.

1.) Cruel Prince and Ruthless Knight were 4-5 star reads for me and I felt like I owed it to these amazing characters to see the conclusion of the series out.

2.) Oakley has been my boo since book one and I have been wanting his story since the first time he was introduced so I HAD to read it and was hoping for the best outcome.

3.) I have read quite a few of Jade’s books at this point and I have faith in her writing and know for a fact that she can write a compelling story and even though I’m not going to get into the plot because there would just be way too much to spoil. This is one of those books you need to read for yourself, Ashley Jade did EXACTLY that with Broken Kingdom.

I went back and forth between four and five stars on this one but ultimately I decided on 4.5. There are many reasons for that and some of those reasons will be highlighted in this review but there is one main reason why I ultimately decided on four stars although I thoroughly enjoyed Broken Kingdom and the way things worked out for Bianca and Oakley.

Although Bianca does regain quite a bit of her memories, the amnesia thing is just still a no go for me. I just feel like it’s a very “easy” way for an author to wipe the slate clean of a character that we have previously met and got to know WITHOUT having to actually put in the work of making that character go through the growth process that was needed and actually EARNING their redemption (just like Bianca’s brothers did…) So although Bianca did grow, and she did become a much better person while still regaining some of her old fight back, I still would have loved to see her change because she WANTED to change… not because she was basically forced into change by forgetting who she was and everything she stood for.

But with all that being said, the author was 100% correct when she asked readers to trust her and her vision and I think Broken Kingdom was a wonderful book and an amazing conclusion to the Royal Hearts Academy Series. I get it Ashley Jade, and even though I still don’t care for the Bianca I read in Wicked Princess, I understand WHY that book NEEDED to happen.

I highly recommend the entire RHA series!

🧡 (𝓗) 𝓗𝓮𝓻𝓸: Oakley Zelenka, the adorable happy go lucky stoner that we all know and love who likes to joke around all the time and doesn’t take life to seriously who’s also been very self-destructive as of late… We get to know a whole other side of Oakley in Broken Kingdom and there is a whole lot more to him then was expected. He’s sensitive, guarded, and right now, after everything that’s happened, he’s drowning in grief and remorse. I have adored Oakley since he first appeared in Cruel Prince, maybe because we both have had addiction issues so I feel like I related to him more than Jace or Cole, I’m not sure but I only adore him more now after seeing this new loving and caring side of him and how hard he fights to remain his sobriety.

❝Forcing myself to stay away from her kills me, but keeping my distance is the right thing to do.
Because she hurt me in ways she doesn’t remember…
and I hurt her in ways I can’t forget.❞

💜 (𝓱) 𝓗𝓮𝓻𝓸𝓲𝓷𝓮: Bianca Covington, the misunderstood bad girl. As more and more of her memories and past are revealed, the more confusing life becomes for Bianca. I was so glad to see that there were a lot more flashbacks/scenes of Bianca remembering different things in her past, so we got to see the “old” Bianca as well as much more of the secret love affair between her and Oak. I was also REALLY happy to see throughout the book that some of the old Bianca is most definitely still in there and we see a whole lot more of it in BK then we did in WP. Don’t get me wrong, for the most part, her manipulativeness is gone, but the bad bitch who takes no shit? Yeah, we definitely see some glimpses of her!

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 𝟓/𝟓 𝓡𝓸𝓶𝓪𝓷𝓬𝓮 & 𝓢𝓽𝓮𝓪𝓶: The sexual tension and steam were off the charts with Oakley and Bianca! Oakley… that dirty mouth of his! 🤤💦 I’ve said it before but I mean it you guys, for the love of all things steamy, bring a change of panties cause you’ll need them! It’s crazy because as far as the present, I think we only actually got like one or two steamy scenes between them. After all, there was a whole lot of push and pull going on between the two of them, but all those past scenes… SHEESH! 💦🥵

❝You should stop looking at me like that, baby girl.”
“What happens if I don’t?”
“I’ll bend you over this bench, tear your little panties off with my teeth… and fuck you so hard everyone on campus will hear you scream my name.❞

❥𝟚❥ 𝓢𝓮𝓬𝓸𝓷𝓭𝓪𝓻𝔂 𝓒𝓱𝓪𝓻𝓪𝓬𝓽𝓮𝓻𝓼: So of course I was so glad to see Jace, Dylan, Cole, and Sawyer again and get a little glimpse into their lives these days, but I’ve also changed my opinion about a couple of other characters that we have seen throughout RHA. Oakley’s Dad, Wayne. Umm, can we get a story about him next Jade? Like him being a single dad, raising little C.J., and finally meeting THE ONE. Just saying, I’m here for it! 🙏 I would totally be okay with the Covington dad (I can’t think of his name to save my life right now🤦) getting a story about how he met Nadia and where things go with them too, now that my opinion of him has changed quite a bit…

There are two characters that my opinion has only gotten worse but I can’t NOT mention them because they had a major influence on the RHA series and events in BK.

Stone Freakin’ DaSilva. I saw the way things were going to go with Stone a mile away, and the theories I had about which way the author would take things with him were completely correct. I won’t say much but let me tell ya, the way Bianca reacted… OMG, I LOVED that scene. She was handling her own before anyone even got there!! I was so happy seeing her stand up for herself and not be a doormat for him the way she seemed to be in WP and if I’m being honest, the beginning of BK as well. There were quite a few things that he did in WP that made me suspect that there was more then meets the eye with him but his sick actions in BK confirmed it. I NEVER liked Stone, especially after he sat there and let his brother AND his mother speak to Bianca the way he did at the dinner in WP… UM, BOY BYE!! I was totally over him and I was so glad he got what was coming to him even though I was taken aback…

He goes away a lot easier then I thought he would after the fight and after Bianca threatens him. I honestly didn’t see him giving up as easy as he did.

Oh and let’s not forget Crystal… DISGUSTING! UGHHH that woman makes me SICK! But I jumped for joy when Bianca gave her just a little taste of EXACTLY what she deserved!

🌪 𝓒𝓵𝓲𝓯𝓯𝓱𝓪𝓷𝓰𝓮𝓻 𝓦𝓪𝓻𝓷𝓲𝓷𝓰: Nope, NO cliffhanger. All of the Covington’s now have their happily ever after’s. I can’t lie, that epilogue had me cheesing my butt off… but that EXTENDED epilogue had me tearing up with just one single word… or it might have been some onions up in this bitch I don’t know… LOL. When I first read Cruel Prince I never would have imagined how invested in these characters and their stories that I would become and although I hate to see them go, I am super proud of every one of these characters and the growth that each of them has gone through.

Love Triangle: Sort of. Oak and Bianca start talking as “friends” again while she is still with Stone. Cheating: Yes, Oakley and Bianca kiss… and go a little further while she is technically still with Stone. Sex scene with OM or OW: Yes. Very lackluster but kind of graphic sex scenes between Bianca & Stone. Possible Triggers: Yes, there is talk of suicide, child abuse and molestation, as well as domestic violence. HEA?: YES!
