Everything changed the night he betrayed me, and now, the game has entered a new level.

Galen did me a favor, reminding me the only person I can count on is myself, and Iโ€™m more determined than ever to avenge my fatherโ€™s death and avoid the destiny Sinner has mapped out for me.

Saint is used to calling the shots, but there are new rules, my rules, and if he wants me in his life, and in his bed, heโ€™ll toe the line. They all will, because I canโ€™t pull this off alone, and they owe me. Iโ€™ll enjoy making Galen grovel, seducing Caz, frustrating Saint, and keeping Theo at armโ€™s length, because they deserve it for failing me.

Sinner thinks heโ€™s in control, but forcing me into initiation plays right into my hands. War has come to Lowell as rival gangs battle The Sainthood for ultimate power, and I enjoy rebelling from the inside, placing more obstacles in Sinnerโ€™s path while I exact my revenge.

But Iโ€™m not some innocent thirteen-year-old anymoreโ€”I have blood on my hands and lethal enemies on my tail.

Iโ€™m playing a dangerous game, especially where my heart is concerned, but thereโ€™s no turning back. I havenโ€™t come this far to walk away empty-handed, and the more secrets we uncover, the more we realize how far-reaching the betrayal and corruption extend, and thereโ€™s no choice anymore.

Things with Theo were always complicated yet simple. Difficult yet as easy as breathing. Our relationship now is no less complex, but I know I need to fix things with him. Itโ€™s no different from Galen in that regard. I canโ€™t cause a divide in the group with me, Caz, and Saint on one side and Galen and Theo being frozen out on the other side. But even if I do patch things up with them, I still donโ€™t see how it ends up working out. There are too many barriers to unity, especially with Theo.

I remove my hand from Cazโ€™s. โ€œHey, could you give us a minute?โ€ I gesture toward Theo.

โ€œSure.โ€ He kisses my lips. โ€œIโ€™ll grab us a table.โ€

Theo lifts his head, his eyes finding mine, and I hate the anguish I discover there, because I know Iโ€™m partly responsible for it. I step toward him. โ€œHey.โ€ I peer into his beautiful hazel eyes. Green is most prominent today, but his pupils are ringed in a layer of brown and amber, and I could stare at his handsome face all day. Tentatively, I reach out, cupping one side of his face. โ€œYou doing okay?โ€

He shrugs, looking away, and I tilt his face around with my fingers. โ€œDonโ€™t do that. Please.โ€

โ€œIt hurts so much to look at you sometimes,โ€ he admits, his voice cracking a bit.

โ€œI know.โ€ I press my forehead to his, and my heart beats wildly out of control. โ€œIโ€™m sorry if I hurt you with Caz in the car.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s not that,โ€ he says. โ€œI just miss you, Lo. Miss the way we were.โ€ His hands land on my hips.

โ€œI miss you so fucking much,โ€ I whisper. Tears sting my eyes, and Iโ€™m horrified. I pull back, because I canโ€™t break down here. โ€œCan we go to the park tonight? Just you and me. Like old times?โ€

His eyes turn glassy, and a soft smile graces his lips. โ€œI would like that. We are long overdue a talk.โ€

I nod. โ€œYou hurt me, Theo, and Iโ€™m not sure Iโ€™m ready yet, but I want to try.โ€

โ€œI want to try too, because I want to fix things with us.โ€

โ€œDo you think we can?โ€

He shrugs. โ€œI donโ€™t know. I think Iโ€™m even more confused than I was back then.โ€

โ€œBecause of me or someone else?โ€ I gently inquire.

His eyes pop wide. โ€œIs itโ€”โ€

I shake my head. โ€œI donโ€™t think itโ€™s obvious.โ€

The door opens, and Caz pops his head out. โ€œYou guys coming or what?โ€

โ€œAlways so impatient.โ€ Theo punches him in the arm, but heโ€™s smiling. โ€œWeโ€™re coming.โ€ He reaches back, and I take his hand, letting him lead me inside.
