My Review
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Overture is the first book in Skye Warren’s new series! Right from the beginning, Skye’s writing drew me in and now after finishing, I am completely invested in this story and in these characters. I loved all the little fun facts about music, the violin, etc. at the beginning of each chapter, that was a nice little bonus and I knew absolutely none of those facts so it was pretty cool. Overture focuses on Liam and Samantha and is told from dual POV.
Samantha Brooks is a violin prodigy. Her father died when she was 12 years old. The details of that night, Samantha can’t remember. Her mother was dead long before then and the only family she had was an older brother who she didn’t know and who wouldn’t come and claim her. She was left an orphan, until a stranger agrees to become her guardian.
Liam North, the broody, stoic, owner of North Security became Samantha’s guardian when he was just 28 years old. It’s been 6 years since Samantha came into Liam’s care. She is now on the cusp of turning 18 and leaving the compound and Liam to go on a music tour that will take her across the world.
Liam has never been able to look at Samantha as a daughter. Samantha has never looked at Liam as her father. Liam has always kept her at a distance but now that she is about to turn 18 those lines that held them intact as ward and guardian…those lines have started to blur.
The feelings they are both having and hiding from each other are getting harder to suppress, harder to resist the temptation. Samantha wants Liam to think of her as the young woman that she is and not as the child she was when she first came to live with him and she is ready to make him confront his changing feelings for her.
Liam’s horrible childhood and abuse at the hands of his own father shaped him into the stoic, controlled man that he is today. He is convinced that he’s not a good man. He doesn’t think he deserves someone as special and pure as Samantha. Liam wants to keep her safe and protected but he also wants his little bird to spread her wings and leave the nest.
Let me tell you now, the sexual tension in this book…🔥🔥🔥 literally scorching hot!
The ending leaves off on a cliffhanger, one I was NOT expecting. I had my suspicions about who could have sent the hitman after Samantha, but I absolutely did NOT see that coming. I can not wait for the next book in this series, I will be impatiently counting down until it’s release. I can’t wait to see what happens the more this story unfolds, not just with Liam and Samantha’s relationship woes but with the threat to her safety as well.
If you like older man-younger woman, alpha male, unforeseen danger, and a sprinkle of denying love, with a hefty side of taboo, then this is the story for you!
